IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph A.
Totino
September 1, 1931 – June 15, 2024
Dr. Joseph Anthony Totino passed away on June 15, 2024, at the age of 92 in Paoli, PA. He lived a long and fulfilling life. Dr. Totino was born on September 1, 1931, in Chester, PA. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and local physician. Dr. Totino was a graduate of Chester High School, Class of 1949, and Ursinus College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1953. Dr. Totino graduated from Jefferson Medical College as a Doctor of Medicine in 1957. Dr. Totino's life work was his medical practice, and he was dedicated to taking care of all those who lived in the community where he was raised. Dr. Totino was a Board-certified ophthalmologist who practiced in Delaware County for over 60 years and was affiliated with Crozer Chester Medical Center. After three years as a family doctor, he decided to specialize in ophthalmology and graduated from the Residency Program of the University of Pennsylvania. For many years, Dr. Totino drove around town with a license plate no one understood -- OD OS -- which means right eye, left eye in Latin. Dr. Totino loved being a doctor, loved being Italian, and loved his Philly sports teams. He was so proud of being an Eagles season-ticket holder since 1961, and was a faithful Eagles fan in good times and in bad. When he wasn't attending an Eagle's game or watching a Philles game, Dr. Totino enjoyed the opera, reading, and solving the NYT crossword puzzle. Dr. Totino was a life-long athlete, and was an avid runner-turned walker who made physical fitness a priority well into his eighties. When it came to food, Dr. Totino was disciplined but always enjoyed a glass of fine wine, and loved a good hoagie, a good steak, and Mom's meatballs and gravy. Dr. Totino took great pride in his Italian heritage and was thrilled when he was able to travel to Calabria, Italy and connect with his ancestral roots. Dr. Totino was a voracious reader and a lifelong learner who made education a priority for his children. He loved quietly cheering them on from the sports and academic sidelines. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with and hearing stories about his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Dr. Totino is survived by four of his six children: Amy Totino, Mary Totino, Megan (Totino) Martin and her husband Scott Martin, and Matthew and his wife Michaele (Alcaro) Totino; his seven grandchildren: Sara Renee Doud (Robbins) and her husband Chris, Caitlin Cecelia DiMarco, Maura Grace Consedine, John Thomas (Jack) Consedine, Theodore Anthony (Ted) Martin, Bailey Clare Totino, Ella Jude Totino; and his three great grandchildren: Camryn Rose, Logan James and Colin Joseph Doud. He is predeceased by his wife Mary Doris Totino (Levenstein); his sons Kevin Robert and Joseph Anthony, Jr.; his parents Joseph and Catherine (Verano) Totino; and his sisters Elizabeth (Totino) LaSpada and Doris (Totino) Hess.
