Birthe Olesen, age 92, a resident of Glen Mills, passed away January 9, 2020 in Media, PA.
Born and raised in Aalborg, Denmark, Birthe trained as a nurse at Copenhagen Hospital. Came to the US in 1955 as an exchange student to further her education. She worked at several University Hospitals across the country. Met her husband Georg Olesen; who was also Danish, in Orange, NJ, and married in 1957. Georg passed away January 1988 after 30 years of marriage. Birthe earned her bachelor's degree in Nursing Administration from Eastern University in Radnor. Worked at Haverford State Hospital and retired in 1992. Birthe was a longtime member of both the Danish Sisterhood and Brotherhood organizations and a member of the Women's Club of Newtown Square. She enjoyed playing cards - especially bridge, sewing, needlepoint, baking, cooking, and ceramics. Birthe enjoyed traveling the world and has visited multiple countries in North and South America, Europe, and Africa. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She attended St. Timothy's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Aston.
She was the daughter of the late Magnus and Kirstine (Simonsen) Jensen and sister to the late Inga Eriksen and Knud Jensen.
SURVIVORS: Daughters: Bente Cloud(Richard), Annette Olesen, and Linda Platt (Brian); Sister: Lisse Jørgensen; Grandchildren: Michael (Lindsay), Kevin (Brittany), Amanda, Laura, Emily, Hillary, Brian, Robert, and Sean; and Great Grandson: Lucas.
VISITATION: Saturday January 18, 2020 from 9:30 - 10:45 am at St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church, 535 Lamp Post Lane, Aston, PA. Funeral Service: Saturday January 18, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church. BURIAL: Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills. In Lieu of Flowers: Donations can be made to the Macular Degeneration Association at macularhope.org.
