IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Catherine
Dombroski
March 27, 1959 – September 19, 2025
Catherine "Kitty" Clark Dombroski, age 66, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at her home in Wilmington, DE. Kitty was born in Virginia before moving to Ridley Park, PA, where she was raised along with her siblings and loving parents. Kitty's education began at Our Lady of Peace in Milmont Park, PA. For high school, Kitty would take the bus from their family home to attend Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, DE. She went on to be part of Ursuline's graduating class of 1977. After high school, Kitty attended Furman University in South Carolina. As part of the 1981 graduating class, Kitty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Following graduation from Furman, Kitty moved back to Delaware County, Pennsylvania where she ultimately got married and moved to Claymont, Delaware.
Kitty's professional career started at Melon Bank in Center City Philadelphia. When Melon Bank was ultimately bought and transitioned to Fiserv, she stayed with the company and continued to work for Fiserv until her untimely passing. Through hard work, dedication, and taking advantage of any educational opportunities offered - Kitty worked her way into a management position that she held for multiple decades.
Anyone who knew Kitty knew that she was a vibrant and devoted servant of Christ. After joining St. Mark's Lutheran Church in 1997, her unwavering love and dedication to the Lord was reborn. Throughout the 28 years spent as a member of St. Mark's, Kitty was involved with almost everything possible regarding her beloved church. Kitty taught Sunday School to the children involved in the congregation, helped organize and run the St. Mark's Strawberry Festival, and volunteered in the nursery so others could attend services. She gave rides to people who were unable to make it to church on their own. She served on St. Mark's Leadership Council, including as Council President, helping to steer the church through the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you went to the Sunday contemporary service at St. Marks, where she typically volunteered as an usher, you knew you were going to be greeted with her contagious happiness and a big beautiful smile as you walked in for the service - unless there was an eagles game going on...I think we all knew she was going to be elsewhere to watch her birds. She was involved in many ministries, including but not limited to being part of the Kairos Community, which ministers to incarcerated individuals, and serving on the Board of Directors of Hilltop Lutheran Neighborhood Center.
The only thing Kitty may have cared about more than St. Mark's, and maybe the eagles, were her two boys, Jay and Billy. Her greatest joy in this world was being a mother. No matter what was going on in her life, if her boys needed her or they had something going on, she was there. This unwavering and undeniable love to her sons led her to being involved in many unexpected roles: assisted in running the Claymont Falcons youth football program, part time scout master, part time PTA/classroom assistant at school, chaperon on countless field trips, baseball umpire, band director, the list is endless...and I can assure you she enjoyed every bit of it.
Kitty recently became a grandmother to Lilith Jo Dombroski in 2024, and she could not have been prouder. Anyone who had an ear to listen or eyes to see got the opportunity to see and/or hear about her granddaughter, whom she loved so much.
In what free time she had left, Kitty loved to spend time with her family, read, write, create art, and run. Overall, she completed at least three full-length marathons and many more half-marathons. She was a diehard Philadelphia sports fan, always watching and rooting on her teams. Kitty never missed an Eagles game if she had anything to do with it. Go birds! Superbowl Champs! Her love and nurturing spirit extended to animals as well. She cared for many animals throughout the years, but most recently two dogs - Teddy and Sasha - and two tortoises - Walter and Herman.
Kitty's kindness and outgoing spirit will be remembered and missed by her many friends, coworkers, and beloved family. I will leave you with a quote from Kitty that she wrote when presented with the question about what she would decide to write on her "message in a bottle." "I tell you - if you haven't found God - keep looking! Don't ever stop learning and don't ever stop being thankful and grateful. God loves you and wants a relationship with you!"
Kitty was the daughter of the late Donald and Catherine Clark. She was the ex-wife of the late Louis John Dombroski (2015). She was preceded in death by many family members, including her beloved Boston Terrier, Rosie.
