Edward Richard (Dick) Moran, 85 , of the Glen Mills section of Concord Township, died Friday, Feb. 17, at Crozer Keystone Hospice at Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park after a brief illness.
He was born on July 27, 1931, at Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park, the son of Edward Henry and Ethel McFate Moran, of Ridley Park. He graduated from Ridley Park High School in 1949, where he participated in all sports.
He then attended the College of Wooster (Ohio) and later, Penn State University, main campus, where he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1953. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
In 1952 he married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Mae Bell, who died in 2008 after 55 years of marriage. Following graduation Mr. Moran joined the du Pont Company at its plant in Gibbstown, NJ and was later transferred to Birmingham, AL. In 1955 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and, after training at Fort Jackson S.C. and Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, he was stationed at an anti-aircraft practice firing range at Montauk Point, Long Island, NY.
Following his military service in 1956 he rejoined du Pont at Gibbstown, where he worked until 1959, when he was transferred to Nashville, TN. All three of the couple's children were born in Nashville, where the family lived until 1980. He was active in the Church of St. James the Less, where he became Senior Warden.
In 1980 he was transferred to du Pont's Engineering Department in Newark, DE, and moved to Glen Mills. He retired from du Pont in 1986 and worked for United Engineers, Philadelphia, as a consulting engineer until his retirement from there in 1991.
Mr. Moran was a licensed small plane pilot and included among his other hobbies music, reading, politics and genealogy.
He was preceded in death in 2007 by his son, Matthew Henry Moran, of Glen Mills. He is survived by a daughter, Carol Moran of Glen Mills; a son, Dr. Eddie Moran of Germantown, TN; a brother, James H. Moran of Bala Cynwyd, PA; a granddaughter, Rosanna Marinelli of New York City; four grandsons, Edward Richard Moran III, John Andrew Linge Moran and James Michael Moran, all of Germantown, TN, and Joshua Myers, of Ridley Park, PA, and a great-grandson, Gavan Myers of Florida.
