Obituary

Eileen Ann Morris (nee McGowan) died peacefully in her home on September 13, 2016.

Eileen was born on September 10, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated from Notre Dame Moylan High School in 1952. She married her high school sweetheart, Dick Morris in 1955 and welcomed six children into the world in their first 10 years of marriage. In support of her husband's career, Eileen navigated the relocation of home and family many times over the course of twenty-five years, moving from Pennsylvania, to New York, to Georgia, to New Jersey, to California, to Connecticut, to North Carolina and finally returning back home to Pennsylvania in 1987.

Eileen is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 62 years, Richard (Dick) Morris, of Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania; her six children and children-in-law, Linda and Frank Duggan of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, Richard and Debra Morris of Douglas, Massachusetts, Patrick and Mary Ellen Morris of Somerset, New Jersey, Diane and Gary Granstrom of Oakhurst, New Jersey, Michelle and Andrew Ayer of Hingham, Massachusetts and Gregory and Robin Morris of Succasunna, New Jersey; her thirteen grandchildren, Joseph Darmofal (and his wife, Jennifer), Amy Samilenas (and her husband, Brent), Sara Granstrom, Michelle Aurich (and her husband, Andrew), Brian Morris, Delaney Morris, Bailey Morris, Evan Ayer, Ryan Morris, Ethan Ayer, Zachary Morris, Nicholas Morris, and Maximus Morris; her great granddaughter, Christa; her sisters-in-law, Mary McGowan and Ellen Morris; her brother-in-law, David Morris, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Margaret McGowan and her brother, Jack McGowan.

In addition to raising her family and caring for their home, Eileen worked part time in sales for companies such as Avon, Bamburger's/Macy's, and Leading Brands, where she was often recognized as a top sales person. Eileen took great pride in raising her family and working outside the home.

When her children were grown, Eileen took liberal arts courses at Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she delighted professors and students with her writing skills and love of learning.

Eileen was a loving grandmother and was so proud of the accomplishments of all her grandchildren. Over the years, she attended countless school plays, award ceremonies, graduations, dance recitals, sporting events, and musical performances and was a constant source of encouragement and support for her thirteen grandchildren. Some of her most treasured memories were made during special trips with her grandchildren.

After retiring, Eileen and Dick enjoyed spending time with lifelong friends and new friends in their neighborhood at Riviera Concord, where Eileen spent many years as social chair organizing events for the community. An avid reader, Eileen also greatly enjoyed gatherings with her friends in book club. Friends and neighbors affectionately bestowed on Eileen the nickname "Queen Eileen" because of her beauty, grace and charm.

Eileen also enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, particularly vacations down the shore and the Outer Banks. Other memorable trips included winter months spent in Naples, Florida, a wedding anniversary cruise to Bermuda, a trip to London, England, visits to California, Atlantic City, Washington, D.C., Hawaii, and cheering on The Scarlet Knights at the Insight and Texas Bowls.

Eileen was a loving daughter, a kind sister, a devoted wife, a caring sister-in-law, a wonderful mother, a supportive aunt, a delightful grandmother and a dear friend and she will be profoundly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
