Obituary

Florence Perkowski Oppelt "Flossie," age 95, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on October 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Flossie was born on her family's farm in Richlandtown, Bucks County, PA—a place filled with hard work, tradition, and the simple joys of country life. Growing up on the farm shaped her resilient spirit and strong values, qualities she carried with her throughout her life. Her family later moved to Aston in 1945, and she proudly graduated from Chester High School in 1948.

Flossie held many roles over the years—at WVCH Radio Station, Ship & Shore Clothing Store, the Sun Valley High School cafeteria, and Norcross Greeting Cards—each providing opportunities for her to brighten someone's day with her warm smile, sharp wit, or kind words. Wherever she worked, she made friends easily, and her friendly, welcoming nature left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She had a zest for life that never dimmed. Flossie loved the lively rhythms of polka music, could spend hours happily absorbed in a jigsaw puzzle, and enjoyed crocheting gifts that became cherished family keepsakes. She found joy in traveling and trips to the casinos, and she was famous for her delicious Polish cooking, which brought family together and filled every home she entered with warmth and comforting aromas. Most of all, Flossie treasured time spent with her family, friends, and extended family; she had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel loved, included, and at home.

Flossie was predeceased by her parents, Stanley J. and Christine Ziara Perkowski, and her beloved husband, Robert Oppelt Sr. (2010)

Survivors: Flossie is survived by her devoted children—Barbara, Donna, Janice, Theresa, John, Robert (Katrina), David (Cindy), and Gary; her loving sisters, Rita and Stella; and her brothers, Stanley, Richard, and Leonard. She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren and the cherished great-grandmother of 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her long and beautiful life.

Flossie's family will forever remember her kindness, her humor, her strength, and the boundless love she shared so easily.

A memorial service is being planned in the near future, where her life will be celebrated and her memory honored.
