January 29, 1980 – April 28, 2020
Gary Vaughn Drais Jr., of Aston, age 40, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Tuesday, April 28, 2020 while on his postal route in Malvern, PA.
Gary was raised in the Sun Hill section of Chester, PA where he built lifelong friendships. Graduate of St. Roberts Elementary School and a 1998 graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School. In his early years, he paraded with his Dad in the New Years Mummers Parade in South Philly. Gary also played baseball for the Brookhaven Babe Ruth League. As a young adult, Gary worked as a delivery driver for Kyj's Bakery while also pursuing his Nursing degree from Delaware County Community College. Gary worked as an LPN with the geriatric population within various Assisted Living Communities. After a few years, Gary hung up his scrubs and 8 years ago he proudly became a member of the U.S. Postal Service. Within that amount of time, Gary made many lifelong lasting friendships. He was a hardworking Dad who loved to care for and to be of service to others. Most importantly, he wanted his kids to succeed in anything that they did. He was exceptionally proud that his son, Dominic, was accepted into Penn State University for this upcoming Fall semester. For many years, Gary coached Dominic in baseball, and his daughter, Gianna, in softball along with many other players through the Brookhaven Babe Ruth League; he was looked up to by so many. Gary was an all-around Philly sports guy; he watched the Eagles win their first Super Bowl and took Dominic to the parade to celebrate. He also enjoyed the Summer months taking his children to the shore, swimming pool, and boardwalk to ride the amusement rides.
Gary was predeceased by his Dad, Gary Sr., Maternal grandparents, Frank & Jeanne Cimabue, Paternal grandparents, Roland & Mae Drais, Uncle Francis Cimabue, and Uncle Ronnie Drais.
Gary was survived by his son, Dominic, 18 and daughter, Gianna, 11. He was also survived by his Mom, Annamaria (Cimabue) Drais, and sisters Shannon and Brianna, of Aston. His dear cousins; Jeffrey, Benjamin (Jamie) and Lauren Cimabue, Janine Boykin, Jessica (Albert) DelGrosso, Juliana and Anthony Cimabue, Zachary (Cheryl) Gniewoz, Peter (Melanie) Gniewoz, Emily Gniewoz (Anya Glushkov), Caitlin (Matthew) Eichler, Christina (Shawn) Lutz, Melissa Drais (Matthew Turner), and Shaun and Maggie Armstrong. His loving aunts and uncles; Aunt Betsy Cimabue, Uncle Mark (Andrea) Cimabue, Aunt Yvonne Shaw, Aunt Liz Gniewoz, Uncle Dale (Gayle) Drais, Uncle Mark (Anna) Drais. Brother-in-laws; Paul Allison & A.J. (Kristi) Allison. Many extended family and friends, including Steve & Michael Boroi. Gary was also survived by his estranged wife: Danielle (Allison) Drais.
Visitation: Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 11-12:15 pm.
