IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George David
"Dave" Starr
August 3, 1944 – July 21, 2025
George David "Dave" Starr, 80, a graduate of Chester High School and long-time resident of Norwood, passed away on Monday, July 21st, surrounded by love. Born to George Starr and Kathryn Starr, Dave spent much of his working life high above the streets (or deep underground) as a cable splicer for Bell Telephone and Verizon. After retiring, he happily traded wires for wrenches, spending the next two decades doing what he loved most-working with his hands, tackling projects no matter how big or small, and sharing stories over countless cups of coffee with anyone who'd listen (or pretend to). Dave, a self-taught artist and tinkerer of all trades, had a true creative spirit. He painted, sketched, carved, sawed, glued, and soldered-usually with smooth jazz on and a satisfied smile. His carved decoys and American folk art collection spoke to his love of craft and character. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and neighborhood MacGyver. Whether playing chess with anyone brave enough to take him on, tending to his koi pond and many fish tanks, or soaking in the serenity of a Jersey Shore sunset, Dave found joy in life's quieter, quirkier moments. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Dolores Starr; his three children, Andy Starr, Owen Starr, and Blake Starr; his daughter-in-law Caron Starr and son-in-law Darren Arkava; and his five grandchildren-Brandon, Ella, Shane, Chloe, and Jesse-who will never forget Grand-dad's jokes, gentle wisdom, and ever-curious mind.
Dave had a gift for seeing beauty in the ordinary and a talent for making the everyday feel a little more extraordinary. He'll be deeply missed and forever remembered-one laugh, one story, and one project at a time.
Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations be made in Dave's honor to Pancreatic Cancer Research . (Click the hyperlink to donate)
