IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George T.
Kelly
November 10, 1939 – July 23, 2025
George T. Kelly, affectionately known as Terry, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving children on July 23, 2025, at the age of 85. Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Terry lived a life rooted in kindness, patience, and a deep devotion to family, community, and just the right amount of ice cream served in a coffee mug. A proud graduate of Salesianum High School, Terry went on to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering from Villanova University, though his true chemical formula was one part wisdom, one part wit, and two parts patience (especially when dealing with his children). Professionally, he worked as a chemical engineer for over 40 years for multinational companies DuPont, Rohm and Haas and others. After retirement Terry worked with the charities, The United Way and Carelift International, but his favorite roles were those of husband, dad, grandpop, coach, chauffeur, and grill master. A dedicated family man, Terry logged thousands of miles attending his kids' and grandkids' games, often with a whistle, a folding chair, and an encyclopedic knowledge of every inefficient back road between home and the field. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Viola Kelly, and his beloved wife of over 60 years, Maryanne, his partner in travel, shore summers, grandkid spoiling, and post retirement adventures. He is survived by his children Terry Kelly (Heidi), Brian Kelly (Patti), Chris Kelly (Laura), and Megan Kelly; 12 grandchildren (Zachary, Bradley, Madeline, Jack, Brett, Matthew, Connor, Nate, Cole, McKenna, Moira, and Frankie); 2 great-grandchildren (Mila, Soren); and his siblings Kevin Kelly, Dick Kelly, and Carol Terranova. All will miss his warmth, humor, and unwavering support (as well as his legendary BBQs at the shore). He played golf into his late 70s, cheered for all Philly sports, drove every car to at least 300,000 miles, and could whistle a tune better than most birds. He took his kids to iconic stadiums like Wrigley Field, Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium, the Palestra, Franklin Field, the Spectrum, and Veterans Stadium, planting a love of sports that still echoes in the family today. Terry's life was one well lived with grace, humility, and more than a few detours. He was a sincere and honest man of few words. His memory will live on in every slow turn, in every scoop of ice cream, and in every child's game where someone in the stands cheers for their kids.
