George J. Smith, age 75 , a longtime resident of Media, died on January 4, 2016. He most recently resided in Garnet Valley. George graduated from Interboro High School in 1958 where he was a member of the football and track teams. He earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education from West Chester University. George taught geography and history for 38 years at Coatesville Area Schools where he also coached football and track. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and his other interests included travelling, gardening, and cartoon artwork.

He was the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Watterson) Smith.

SURVIVORS: His loving wife of 49 years: Berniece (Petka) Smith; sister: Margaret Barclift (Gil); Brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many loving nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
