Obituary

Gerald G. Lucas (Gerry), passed away peacefully at his home on June 5, 2026, with his beloved wife, Ellen, by his side. He was 75.

Gerry was born and raised in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. He came from humble beginnings, and from an early age had a deep interest in human nature, the pursuit of wisdom, and the world around us. Upon graduation from Northeast Catholic High School he entered the seminary with a genuine sense of purpose, drawn to a life of service, learning, and teaching. In 1975, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Allentown College (now DeSales University) and continued his theological studies at The Catholic University of America, Masters in Theology. In time, he came to choose a path that ran through the world rather than the Church, and he followed it.

Gerry was, at heart, a teacher. Not just professionally, but naturally. That quality shaped the whole arc of his life, from his years with the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, to teaching at Northeast Catholic and Cardinal Dougherty High Schools, and later, to executive leadership roles in technology at Vanguard and Fiberlink. The settings of his life changed many times, but the throughline didn't: Gerry loved learning and sharing what he knew. Gerry was respected for his intelligence, integrity, and a gift for making complex things accessible in a way that brought people in, making them feel welcomed, not diminished.

This was evident even as a young man, devoting countless hours as a sailing, boating, and water skiing instructor at numerous boys camps during summers in college. The lessons he taught and the example he set left a lasting impact on generations of young people.

Outside of work, Gerry embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. He was an avid golfer for more than four decades at Sandy Run Country Club in Oreland, and a lifelong Phillies fan, loyal through many cellar years..

Gerry was never showy or effusive with his feelings, but privately was quite sentimental.
He treasured family traditions, took many family photos, and saved humble (often homemade) gifts from his grandkids.

Some of his happiest times were when everyone was together, especially on family trips to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Days were filled with laughter, conversation, and the simple pleasure of being together. Whether gathered around a dinner table, cheering from the sidelines, or sharing stories on the beach, Gerry valued every opportunity to strengthen the bonds of family.

SURVIVORS:

Gerry is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Ellen (Kopp) Lucas, whose love and companionship were among the great gifts of his life. He is also survived by his loving stepchildren, Jules Omlor, Brian Omlor (Lisa Picasso), and Danielle Keilt (Drew); his grandchildren, Hailey, Audrey, Daisy, and Louie, who brought him great joy, and his siblings, James Lucas, Christine Wiener, and Kathleen Richter (deceased).

He loved his family deeply and took quiet pride in being part of their lives and watching them grow. Gerry will be remembered not just for what he knew, but for his generosity in sharing it.

VISITATION : Saturday July 18, 2026 from 10:30 am - 12 pm at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Ave. Aston.

FUNERAL LITURGY: Saturday July 18, 2026 at 12 pm - 12:30 pm at the funeral home.

BURIAL will be at a later date.
