Harry W. Smedley, Sr., age 83, passed away on June 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Harry was born in Chester, PA to the late George and Helen (Burns) Smedley. He was a graduate of Chester High School and worked at Sun Oil Corporation in Marcus Hook until his retirement. Harry was a resident of Brookhaven for 60+ years, and a member of Our Lady of Charity Church, also in Brookhaven. During his younger years, Harry developed his love for the game of baseball. He was a proud member of the Delaware County Athletes Hall of Fame (1997), and the Chester High School Athletes Hall of Fame (1999), both for Baseball. Harry enjoyed having a cold beer and watching the Phillies game (or the Eagles), playing (and later watching) a round of golf on TV, swimming in his pool with his grandkids, listening to music, and he loved his scratch-off Lottery tickets! He valued and was grateful for his family above all. Harry was predeceased by his parents the late George and Helen (Burns) Smedley, his brothers: George, Hunter, Robert, and his sisters: Mary, Elizabeth, and Helen. Harry is survived by his beloved Wife of 61 years, MaryAnn (DeMaio); Son: Harry (Rose) Smedley; Daughters: Denise McGowan, Susan (Scott) Sexton; Son-in-law: Leo McGowan; Grandchildren: Meaghan Chirinos, Kyle (Alex) Chirinos, Matthew (Maren) Smedley, Caroline McGowan, Angela Smedley, Kevin McGowan, Ryan Sexton, Nick Sexton, Nate Sexton, Great-grandchildren: Declan Smedley & Isla Smedley (due 11/2024); Sister: Ann Smedley, and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Please join us in honoring and celebrating the life of Harry Smedley at the upcoming memorial service. Held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 with visitation from 10:00-11:30 am and memorial service at 11:30 am at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Avenue, Aston, PA. Burial will be private.
