Irene Haeckel, a resident of Garnet Valley, age 77, passed away on March 13, 2021. Irene was raised in Wallingford, PA, and was a graduate of Nether Providence High School. Before retiring, Irene worked as an office manager in a law practice.

In her free time, Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, whom she always put first. She loved her children and grandchildren (and fur babies!), and was always there for them, no matter what, even if it meant driving 6 hours on a whim to help out. Irene always loved to travel. She had seen many parts of Europe. But in her later years, she enjoyed traveling to the South of France with her daughter and son-in-law. She insisted on taking each grandchild to Europe to make lifetime memories together.

Irene also had a passion for cooking and passed this love onto her family. She would eagerly learn new recipes and try new flavors, then improve on them to delight her family and friends. Irene was also very involved in her community where she was on the landscaping committee, participated in water aerobics, morning coffee gatherings, and the knitting club where she taught many people how to make new designs. It was one of her favorite pass-times, and each family member cherish a piece she knitted for them.

She was the daughter of the late Harold and Ida Mae (Bowers) Cooper, and wife of the late Udo Haeckel.

Survivors: Kirsten Newman-Teissier (Nathanael Teissier) and Robert F. Newman III. Brother: Harold "Budd" Cooper. Grandchildren: Samantha Newman, Gabrielle Newman, and Robert George Paul "G.P." Newman, and Albert St. John.
