Obituary

John Peter Braun

J. Peter Braun, 75, died peacefully on October 28, 2016 at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA.

Peter was born in Darby, PA to John W. and Violet Douse Braun on January 15, 1941. He was a graduate of Marple Newtown High School, Lehigh University, the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania. He married Gail Hope Summers in 1962 and they shared love and life, family, friends, and adventure for the next 54 years. The care of his wife, daughters and grandchildren was his lifelong commitment, and his greatest joy. He loved photography, traveling, golf, working in the yard or vegetable garden, and especially the company and camaraderie of those he knew and met.

Mr. Braun's career in municipal management was defined by his dedication to excellence and public service. He held the position of Township Manager in several municipalities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, most notably his 22 year tenure in Randolph, NJ. His achievements earned regional and international recognition both for himself and the communities he served, and he held appointments including president of the International City Managers Association, executive director of the Ten Towns Watershed Management Committee, and the executive board of the League of Municipalities. He was active in the Rotary Club and the United Way, and served on many other boards and committees.

Peter is survived by his wife Gail Summers Braun; his three daughters Jill Braun-Helwig and Son-in-law Donald Helwig, Cindy Braun Dunn, and Betsy Braun Billigmeier; his sister Carol Braun Tatem; and his four grandchildren Jessica, John, Erin, and Lauren.
