James Anthony Ianni, 90, of Chester PA peacefully passed away Wednesday morning, February 18, 2026 in Virginia Beach. Born in Wilmington, Delaware he was a graduate of Chester High class of 1955. James was a talented baseball player throughout High school and excelled on the mound and at the plate. James lived the majority of his life in Chester and recently relocated to Virginia Beach to be closer to his family.

James honorably served our nation in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal from 1955 to 1959. He also protected many citizens with his contributions as a Chester Police Officer from 1964 to 1987.

James was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police William Penn Lodge #19. When he lived in Chester, James was a parishioner of ST. Katherine Drexel Church.

He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City casinos and the beaches of Ocean City. He also enjoyed having a cold beer while listening to classic country music and being around friends and family. He was always prepared to deliver a timely dad joke which would be met with a groan and a laugh. Ironically he will be laid to rest at 2:30, which is the time he usually scheduled dentist appointments.

Although James could on occasion ruffle some feathers, he was funny, friendly, loyal, and generous.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Innocenzo Ianni and Rose (Novallino), his brother Francis A.J. Ianni, his sister Dolores Headley (Ianni), and his sister Rita Cirrillo (Ianni).

Survivors: Son: Steve Ianni and his wife Angela and daughter Eleanor (granddaughter), grandson Joey and his wife Amanda and daughter Louisa (great granddaughter), granddaughter Nina and her husband Colin. He is also survived by his three nephews Juan Ianni, Anthony Ianni, and Andrew Ianni.
