Obituary

Jane Cobourn Baker Calhoun Brown, age 92, passed away on December 11, 2020, in Dover, DE. Jane was born in Chester, PA, and was a lifelong resident, having lived at the same home for 90 years. A graduate of Chester High School, Jane earned the distinction of Class Valedictorian, and she was the editor of the school newspaper. For over 30 years Jane was an administrative assistant with Orthopedic Associates. Jane was proud to have lived a life full of volunteer work. She served as the leader of Brownie Troop 734, the Day Camp Director for Girl Scout Camp Indian Orchards, and she spent countless hours working with the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the Coatesville VA. In her free time, Jane loved to make crafts and spend time in her garden, which is where she was always happiest. Jane also enjoyed travelling and having meals out. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Chester prior to its closing, as well as Parkside Methodist before its closure, followed by Christ United Methodist Church in Brookhaven. Jane will be dearly missed by her family and friends, including her pen pal in England of 75 years, who she has written to since High School and had the opportunity to meet when she visited the United States.

She was the daughter of the late Chester F. Baker and Ruth Cobourn Baker, and wife of the late John W. Calhoun, and James R. Brown, she is also predeceased by her beloved feline fur babies, the late Thistle, Pansey, Felix, Lilly, Squiggles, and Savannah.

Survivors: Children: Jane Unger and Ruth Yanos. Grandchildren: Seth, Anna, Kristy, Matthew, Bernard, Brian, and Melissa. Nine Great Grandchildren and her cat and companion Molly.

Funeral Services: Private due to COVID restrictions. Burial: Chester Rural Cemetery, Chester. In Lieu of Flowers: Donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 600 Dutton Mill Rd., Brookhaven, PA 19015, in Jane's name or provide service to others to make their life a little brighter in honor of her.
