Janis M. Downs (NEE Gallagher) died peacefully, on July 25, 2021 at Brandywine Senior Living at Longwood. Born and educated in Chester, she was a 1961 graduate of Chester High School. After marrying the love of her life in 1963, Janis and her husband Maurice lived in Claymont where they started their family before moving to Aston, where they lived for almost 40 years. Janis worked for the Franklin Mint from around 1991 until its closing and Applied Card Systems until her retirement in 2006.  Janis was also a member of Wayne United Methodist Church.

Janis was the beloved wife of Maurice Downs.  Their greatest joy in life was to simply be together. They made many memories traveling with their siblings, cousins, and friends. Janis was a loving mother who was always there for advice, shopping trips, phone calls, or a shoulder to lean on. She loved being a Nana to Ben, Maddi, Nathan, and Connor. Spending time with them or just hearing about their day was a joy.  She suffered dementia for the past 6 years. Throughout this battle, her class, grace, and kind spirit remained. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Janis was predeceased by her parents Robert & Isabelle (Shive) Gallagher.  She was the wife of the late Maurice Downs (2015).

SURVIVORS: Her beloved daughters Sherri Hollick (Michael) and Deborah Sears (Michael). Her siblings Robert Gallagher (Carmen), and Sharon McClaskey (Thomas), and her cherished grandchildren Connor & Nathan Hollick and Madeline & Benjamin Sears.

VISITATION: Monday August 2, 2021 from 10-11:00am at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Ave, Aston.

FUNERAL SERVICE Monday at 11:00am at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Mount Hope Cemetery, Aston.
