John L. DiAmicis, age 94 , sadly passed away on October 14, 2017. John was born in White Haven, PA and was later raised in Marcus Hook, PA. He was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (DiFrancisco) DiAmicis. John had four siblings -- sisters Mary, Algine and Edith, and brother, Joseph. John was the husband of the late Alberta E. DiAmicis. He was a resident of Wallingford, PA for over 60 years.
John started his career at Sun Ship Dry Dock as an apprentice in pipefitting and later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Okinawa Campaign during WWII where he received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for bravery. After the war, John became a Merchant Marine where he travelled the world. In 1947 John continued his life-long career at Sinclair Oil Refinery, later known as BP Oil Refinery, where he retired in 1986.
After retirement John began a journey of volunteering his time throughout his Township and nearby communities. He was one of the first conservationists of Ridley Creek and Chester Park, clearing the grounds and waterways from debris. John was a driving force in having the War Memorial erected in Nether Providence Township. He was an avid bicyclist and for 25 years participated in Larry Kane's Multiple Sclerosis Bike Tour. John was well known throughout the Township and nearby communities. He was known for his tenacity, patience and courage.
John was proud to be a United States Army Veteran and always looked forward to family gatherings.
SURVIVORS: Children: Joe (Jeanie) DiAmicis, Sandy (James) Fry, Jack (Mary) DiAmicis, Thomas DiAmicis (Barbara), and Joyce (Lindsey) Price. 9 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.
