Obituary

John Albert Slowik, 73, of Milton, Delaware formerly of Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania passed away on February 1st, 2021. John graduated from St. James High School in Chester, PA, Pierce Junior College, and Widener University. He served two tours in Vietnam as a military police officer, then pursued a career in law enforcement with the Chester Police Department. He worked for Delaware County's Criminal Investigation Division and retired after serving as Chief of Police for Bethel Township. John also assisted his neighborhood, Paynter's Mill, DE where he acted as president of the HOA. Known for his integrity and selflessness, John contributed greatly to the communities around him. He was an avid golfer, proud of his hole-in-one, and enjoyed playing pickleball with friends. John loved taking his grandchildren to the beach at Cape Henlopen.

He was the son of the late Catherine McGinn and Joseph Slowik Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Christine Haas Slowik. He was a devoted father to Karen (Mark) Linton and John (Stephanie) Slowik, and an adoring Pop-pop to Alexander, Nathaniel, Katelynn, Mark Jacob, and Brynn. John is also survived by brothers Andrew, Albert, Martin, and Michael; sisters Mary Slowik and Catherine Blackburn; and nieces and nephews, including godson Michael Slowik.

Visitation will be at Nolan Fidale Funeral Home on Thursday, February 18th from 9:00 to 10:15 A.M., followed by a Memorial Mass at Church of the Holy Child at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be held at Lawn Croft Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center for Neuroendocrine Cancer Research: 4701 Ogletown Stanton Rd, Newark, DE 19713.
