Joseph Anthony Mantegna, 86, of Brookhaven, PA, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2026, following a brief illness.
Joe was born on June, 13, 1939. He grew up in "The Meadows" section of southwest Philadelphia and graduated from John Bartram High School in 1957. He proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard between 1963 and 1969. Joe also had a 28-year career at Pontiac Paper in Folcroft, PA before retiring in 2010. In semi-retirement, he and Roe maintained a home and office cleaning business for more than 25 years.
Joe will be fondly remembered as a loving husband and father. He very much enjoyed his Philadelphia sports teams and could always be seen watching the latest Phillies, Eagles, or Flyers game. His occasional yell at the television depending on the teams' progress could often be heard. Joe was quick to recite any important or obscure sports stat from decades prior, and spent his spare time maintaining his basil plants, clipping recipes for healthy concoctions, and making sure his neighbors in Building 10 had their cars cleared following each snowstorm. He enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach each summer, where he fished off the pier while Roe read her book.
He loved the Lord Jesus and made sure to say that the most important thing in life was the forgiveness of our sins.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Cataldo and Grace Mantegna, and his brother, Charles, and is survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie (Bozzuto) of 62 years, and his daughter, Stephanie (Mantegna) Becker, and her husband, Bill. He is also survived by his sister, Rita Damasco, and his twin sister, Marie Crescenzo. He is also survived by close in-laws, cousins, family friends, and several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you is extended to the care team at Delaware Hospice, especially his nurse, Toni, and his nursing assistant, Katlyn.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Delaware Hospice (630 Churchmans Road, Suite 200, Newark, DE 19702) or Reach Church (2880 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, DE 19701).
