Louis P. "Lou" D'Angelo
Louis "Lou" D'Angelo, age 91, of Glen Mills, died peacefully at Crozer-Chester Hospital on Friday, April 10, 2015.
Lou was born and raised in Philadelphia. He was the only child of the late Philip and Margaret (nee Lombardo) D'Angelo. He was predeceased by his wife Audrey A. (nee Johnson) D'Angelo.
Lou graduated from Central High School and went to Villanova University for one year before serving in the Army for three years. After the Army he returned to Villanova, receiving his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. He began teaching and coaching football in high school at Bok Technical High School, Philadelphia. In 1956 he went to the Pennsville High School, in Pennsville, New Jersey. Since the school was new he started the varsity football program there, eventually coaching for 22 years. He was also a teacher and eventually curriculum coordinator in the Social Studies program at Pennsville, retiring in 1982. He was recognized for his work in the classroom by the reception of the Valley Forge Freedoms Foundation Teaching Medal. His coaching achievements earned induction into the South New Jersey Coaches Football Hall of Fame and the Salem County Sports Hall of Fame. In 1994 Pennsville High School named their football stadium in his honor.
Lou is survived by his son Louis P. (Carol) D'Angelo, Jr. and daughter Carolyn (Francis) Beck; grandchildren, Sarah, Michele, Amy, Mark, and Kimberley and four great-grandchildren.
In keeping with Lou's wishes his body was donated to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Humanity Gift Registry for purposes of medical research. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 9:30-10:45 with a memorial service to celebrate his life to follow at 11 am at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Ave. Aston, PA.
