IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret D.
Kounnas
October 15, 1936 – January 19, 2019
Margaret D. "Scottie" Kounnas, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland until February of 1958 when she migrated to the United States. Although she loved the United States, she was proud of her Scottish heritage, where she was known as Greta in her homeland. She settled in Upland upon her arrival to America, and thereafter she lived in Chester and Woodlyn. For the past 10 years she was a resident of Chester, including the Belvedere Nursing Home. Margaret enjoyed caring for the elderly and worked as a CNA and a Home Health Care Specialist for over thirty years throughout Delaware County. Margaret enjoyed spending time with her large family, but especially her many generations of grandchildren, where she was endearingly known as "NANA." She was the life of the party and always had a smile to share. She was an avid dancer who won many trophies on the dance floor. She loved to travel, watch old movies, go to the casino, bingo and listen to music. She volunteered as an adopted grandparent to many school children of ESL parents, and also volunteered at the Salvation Army in Chester.
She was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Ferrier. She was sadly predeceased by her son Dennis Kounnas, Sr. (2015), her loving companion of many years, Edward "Boots" Zaffiri, her brother John Ferrier (loving wife, Mary) and her sister, Alexandrina (Irene) Johnson.
Margaret is survived by her children: Elizabeth Johnson (John), Ruby Smith (Charles), Edward Kounnas (Jackie), and Laura Zaffiri (Shafiq Jan). Daughter-in-law: Mary Kounnas (late Dennis Kounnas, Sr.) Siblings: Edward Ferrier (Beth), and James Ferrier of Edinburgh, Scotland and brother-in-law, James (Peanuts) Johnson of Conway, Arkansas. She also had many nieces and nephews.
Nana loved her grandchildren with all of her heart and they all adored their Nana. She will be greatly missed by each and every one of them, lovingly named as follows:
Grandchildren: Stan (Cara), Vernon (Bo), Monique, James (Kia), Felicia, Dennis, Jr. (Ashley), Amber (Ryan), Danielle, George (Jenna), Paige.
