Obituary

Michael Patrick Conlin, age 62, passed away on March 29, 2022, at Mountain Valley Hospice in Dobson, North Carolina after a courageous 12-year battle with lymphoma. Mike was born and raised in Concordville, PA and was a 1978 graduate of Garnet Valley High School, where he was known as a varsity baseball athlete and practical joker. In shop class, he took up lifelong hobbies of building and woodworking. Mike began work as a freight hauler for Preston Trucking in the Teamsters union and enjoyed spending his free time hunting, playing horseshoes with his friends and brothers, and fixing cars, including his 1953 Ford pickup.

Mike married Heather Jane Conlin (née Dutton) in 1989 and they had two children, Michael Jr. in 1991 and Kelsea in 1994.  He moved to North Carolina with his wife and children in 1997 and began working for Yellow Freight, again as a Teamster. His passion for building continued to grow over the years as he made improvements to every room of their home and taught his son and daughter some practical skills. Family was paramount to Mike and he maintained close relationships with his mother and siblings. He enjoyed trips to the Florida Keys for fishing, hunting, and fun, often with his brother Jim and occasionally with Michael Jr. He also brought his family for visits with his sister Mary on the beach in New Jersey. Friends and family knew they could go to Mike to learn what route to take and every great place to eat along the way. Of his travels, Mike was most fond of his trips to Hawaii and his relatives treasure the time they spent with him on the islands. A lifelong Eagles fan, Mike's birthday coincided with the Superbowl and he was overjoyed to see the birds win one while celebrating with his children.

During his illness, Mike's penchant for craftsmanship didn't fade and he served as foreman  for his children's home improvement projects. Throughout their homes are things he built or lovingly taught them how to make. He also developed a passion for cooking and enjoyed hosting elaborate three-course meals for his children, especially around birthdays. Indeed, their most precious memories of him are wonderful times spent together as a family, making each other laugh over a great meal.

Mike was the son of the late Frank T. and Josephine Conlin and brother to the late Charles Conlin.

Survivors: His beloved children Michael Patrick Conlin, Jr. (wife Emma Sternlof) and Kelsea Jane Hoth (husband Jeffrey Hoth); his siblings Mary Conlin, Kathleen Conlin Comisiak, Robert Conlin, James Conlin, Frank T. Conlin, and Patrick Conlin; and one grandchild on the way.
