Obituary

Michelle Jean McHenry, aged 67, passed away unexpectedly at Riddle Memorial Hospital on Monday August 4, 2025. She was surrounded by love as she left this world for the next. Born to Arthur Sterner McHenry and Loretta Jean McHenry, Michelle was the beloved wife of Philip Shewchuk, beloved mother of Toni DiSantis Daly (Jason), and devoted grandmother of Aidan, Elizabeth and Katie Daly. She leaves behind siblings Art (Nadine), Debbie and Sparkle as well as nieces and nephews.

She was a fighter and a survivor. She was not dealt the best cards by life, but still, she always gave more than she took. Money and material items meant nothing to her, and whatever little she had in this life, she was willing to share. Those that knew her knew that she would literally give you the shirt off of her back. One of her favorite sayings was, "Money is just paper." And truly, she meant that. Up until the day she died, she was helping neighbors in need.

She was dedicated to the cause of stopping violence against women. Growing up, there were women lodgers coming and going in our little apartment escaping abusive situations. She spent many hours operating a domestic abuse hotline and volunteering at women's shelters, even after working double shifts trying to make ends meet as a single mother. She loved her grandchildren fiercely and deeply, and she loved me, her daughter, in a way so profoundly that I am just now starting to understand it. She loved her husband and the ease and peace in life she finally found with Phil. She loved her big brother, Art (Butzi), beyond measure. He was her rock throughout her life.

She loved to garden, and to travel and adventure and made many memories on the road. She was a wild child! She had a hard life, but she managed to get through it with that heart of gold still intact. Still giving more than she ever got. And for that she is an inspiration.

So long, Mommy, you will be so missed. I'll look for you in the flowers you loved so much.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions can be made in Michelle's honor to: The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County
