Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Gaskill, formerly of Marlton, NJ, passed away on Saturday, Aug., 15, following a brief illness.

Millie, who was proud of her South Philadelphia roots and fiercely loyal to her beloved Philadelphia Eagles, grew up in the shadow of the Italian Market on a narrow street filled with family and friends-for-life. The daughter of Vito and Lucy (Cortese) Gizzie, she was a 1962 graduate of Maria Goretti High School and later worked as an administrative assistant for Center City Cadillac and, after raising her children, as a legal  executive assistant at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads, in Cherry Hill, N.J..

Growing up during the days when national singing stars came from Philadelphia's Italian neighborhoods, Millie had a love for dancing and pop music, especially teen idol Bobby Rydell. Her musical interests turned to county-western after she met her future husband, the late Edwin Gaskill, at American Cowboy in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Her later years were filled with the pleasures of family, spending lots of time with her grandchildren and traveling to antique car shows to exhibit Ed's restored classic hot rod. She also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City casinos, where you'd most likely find her at the Let it Ride table.

After Ed's death in 2013, she joined H.O.P.E., a grief support organization for those who have lost a loved one. The women she met there became a source of comfort and comradery. She also stayed close to her friends from the "old neighborhood" and a group of women with whom she graduated high school. They called themselves the Goretti Girls and met often for lunch or dinner to share memories.

Her beautiful smile and deeply caring nature will be greatly missed by all her dear friends and family.

Millie is survived by her son, Robert (Ann) D'Antonio, of Chadds Ford, Pa., grandchildren, Maxwell, Nicholas, and Christopher D'Antonio, and brother Angelo (Rita) Gizzie, of Erial, N.J. Her daughter, Debra, predeceased her in 1977.

A Graveside Service will be on Monday, August, 24, 2020 at 10 am, at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Pa., Friends and family may go directly to the cemetery or gather at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Ave, Aston, Pa., by 8:45 a.m. sharp for a procession to Holy Cross. Those who need a chair are encouraged to bring a folding chair with them or remain seated in their vehicles during the service.
