Nancy Kaye Server Thompson, 68 years old, entered into Heaven's loving embrace on Monday, May 11, 2026 after a courageous battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) following her diagnosis in early 2025. She passed away quietly at her Glen Mills, PA home with her beloved husband Ray and devoted dogs Melody, Ruby and ferocious feline Latte near her side.
In addition to Ray and the furry family, Nancy is survived by brothers-in-law William and Nieces/Nephew Will, Sydney, and Kenna (Pottstown, PA), James and Pam (Pittsburgh), and brother Eric (Burbank, CA) as well as numerous first cousins and first cousins once removed.
Nancy was born on September 15, 1957 to Herbert and Nancy Jean Server (Nee Taylor) in Hamilton, OH. A forever proud native of the Buckeye State, her midwestern roots instilled warmth, kindness and grace in every aspect of her life. During her years in Ohio, Nancy became a devoted godmother to her "first generation" godchildren Matthew Christopher Thomson and Sarah Marian Thomson, children of lifelong friends Nancy and Mark Thomson.
She graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Vocal Performance which provided the foundation for her life's work in music therapy and counseling. In 2007, Nancy earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology followed by a Music Therapy Certification in 2009 from Immaculata University (PA). She embarked on a career dedicated to enriching the lives of patients through her contagious enthusiasm and magical singing while accompanied by her own guitar playing.
Nancy met the love of her life when she was cast in the Playcrafters production of Blithe Spirit by director Ray Thompson in the summer of 1996. Their chemistry was undeniable when they appeared together in 1997 as lead actors - Dulcinea and Don Quixote -- in Man of Lamancha at the DCP Theatre in Green Lane, PA. Nancy and Ray became inseparable and married in May 2003.
Her association with DCP Theatre continued for thirty years as a board member, actress, director, designer and mentor. Nancy directed eight plays over a 20-year span and appeared in innumerable productions as principal actor including: Dial M for Murder, The Miracle Worker, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Biloxi Blues, Taming of the Shrew, A Trip to Bountiful, The Phantom Tollbooth, Oliver!, The Snow Ball, The Tin Woman, and Much Ado About Nothing. Nancy received a Lifetime Achievement Award from DCP Theatre on December 20, 2025. When reflecting on her prolific and wildly successful theater career, Nancy would never identify a favorite production - they were ALL her favorites as she poured heart and soul into each show and role. More than a creative outlet, DCP Theatre became the center of a cherished community and the foundation for extended family that Nancy and Ray helped build over three decades. Through countless productions, rehearsals, cast parties, holidays, celebrations, and life's milestones, they formed enduring friendships that grew into a chosen family in every way that mattered. The bonds forged within the theater extended far beyond the stage and remained among the greatest joys and blessings of Nancy's life.
While Nancy's theater pursuits dominated countless nights and weekends, her soul's work was channeling the healing power of music to patients - young and old - upon which she built and launched her practice Nancy K Server, LLC in 2011.
She became a certified Dementia Practitioner, and an active member of both the American Music Therapy Association and the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Nancy was instrumental in shaping work in the music therapy field.
Nancy spent 15 years working at and supporting the Recreation Department at Camilla Hall, the Convent Home and Healthcare Center of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Initially hired as an Assistant Recreation Therapist, Nancy created, developed, and expanded the Music Therapy program there. In coordination with local universities, she created the student internship program training and mentored numerous students during her tenure. As talented singer & musician, Nancy led the Sisters through holiday sing-a-longs and regular religious services, notably the May Procession, celebrating the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Prayer Around the Cross and Mary's Way of the Cross which was performed at local parishes. She created the Bell Choir at Camilla Hall and an adaptive yoga program which included guided meditation program which Nancy often authored herself. Nancy remained committed to the sisters through Covid, working full-time to make sure they had the care and attention needed to push through the pandemic. Her warm, infectious laughter filled every room and lifted many during those dark times.
Nancy will also be remembered as a hopeless romantic, with a special fondness for the Hallmark Movie Channel which she eagerly shared with Ray and any of her fur babies within reach. She was "mom" to many rescue animals over the years reflecting her deep compassion for all living creatures. We like to imagine that Nancy paused at the Rainbow Bridge on her journey to heaven, where she was reunited with her beloved fur babies-Angel, Gracie, Zackie, and Zoe, among others.
Over the years, Nancy became an accomplished cook, blessing loved ones with her unforgettable crab cakes, chili, and her closely guarded recipe for homemade Kahlua.
Nancy was anointed godmother again to second generation godchildren Sarina Eva Weitzman and Samantha Kaye Weitzman, daughters of Dr. David and Jennifer Weitzman. Samantha's middle name honors the deep, 30-year sisterhood between Nancy and Jennifer. Although her godchildren lived across different states, Nancy remained an active and loving presence throughout every stage of their lives, leaving a lasting imprint of her compassion, kindness, and gentle spirit on who they became.
A faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Glen Mills, Nancy found joy and community in her parish. She will be remembered for her caring heart, her devotion to healing through music, and her unwavering love for both people and animals. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and kindness that will not be forgotten.
