We are sad to announce the passing of our father and grandfather this morning aged 95 years old. Paul was born in Chester, PA to Paul I Desmond and Helen Mullen Desmond. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Helen McIntyre Desmond, his daughter, Suzanne (1996), and his brother, Richard (2013).
He married his beloved wife Helen in 1953 and they were together until her death in 2005. Paul is survived by his son Paul (Katharine), daughter Kerry Desmond Hall (John), granddaughters Elizabeth (Eric), Suzanne, and Katharine, grandsons Matthew, John, and step-grandson Gabriel. Plus, a step-great grandson, August, and great grandson, David.
Paul lived in Springfield, PA from 1957 to 2018. He was living in a nursing home near his daughter, Kerry, in northern New Jersey at his time of death.
Paul attended Archmere Academy from 7th to 12th grade graduating Class of 1948. Paul was in the US Naval Reserve from 1947 to 1949. After a year playing semi-pro ball with Lloyd AC, he entered Washington College, Class of 1953, where he played football and baseball and made life-long friends.
After college, Paul worked at Westinghouse in Lester, PA and then spent 30 years at RCA in Moorestown, NJ before retiring in 1990.
Paul started skiing in the mid-1960s and he had many family trips and club trips skiing in the East, West, Canada, and Europe into his mid 80's.
Paul was a competitive level squash player for over fifty years and, after that, he started playing pickleball! He was seen at Planet Fitness working out at least three times per week into his 90's.
Paul was a lifelong fan of the Eagles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Phillies, and a lover of the Jersey shore.
He was a member of Holy Cross Parish in Springfield, PA.
He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
