Obituary

Phil Scheidt was a man with a great spirit of adventure and lived his life to the fullest. But on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the age of 83, Phil passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully at his Catskills mountain home in Tannersville, NY Phil's athletic ability and drive were evident as a young man, winning the PA State Champion award for basketball with the Kutztown Cougars in 1959. He attended Albright College with a full basketball scholarship, achieved an MBA from Lehigh University and built a 25 year career with two Fortune 500 companies, including as an Executive VP of Materials Management for Mack Trucks in Macungie, PA. While he loved his career, he always felt a yearning for the alpine country from his first visit to the Alps in 1971. He began skiing as a hobby, then organized guided ski tours for Albright College students in 1980, as an adjunct to his career. In 1989, his passion for the Alps drove Phil to exchange his suits for hiking boots. He started Wanderweg Holidays as a tour operator for hiking in the Swiss and Austrian Alps. His motto: to offer active vacations which revive your spirit and sense of adventure! Phil is an accomplished skier, hiker and Certified Switzerland Network and Austrian Travel Specialist. Phil is survived by his wife, Cris (he met as a customer in 1991 on a Swiss hiking tour with Wanderweg Holidays), an extended loving family, and many friends who enjoyed Phil's warm conversation, wicked humor and tales of travel experiences around the world. He will be deeply missed. Services for Phil will be held privately.
