Obituary

Phyllis Jeanette (MacDonald) Hancock, 92, passed away peacefully Monday, January 19, 2026 surrounded by family at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Born in Malden, Massachusetts, to the late Daniel A. and Dorothy M. MacDonald, where she graduated from Malden High School. Phyllis had a long, exemplary work history, including being the first female executive at Swiss Colony. She also owned several retail businesses including JP Specialty and Make It Personal. But her favorite was being the founder and proprietor of the Fudge Drum, a popular fudge store in the Chadds Ford Barn Shops. There she continued a family tradition of making fudge, using the recipes of her father, a longtime candymaker. She was very happy to pass those recipes along to her son and her granddaughter.

Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, dancing, Scrabble and word games. She frequently participated in the Senior Olympics. She maintained friendships with high school and local friends, and enjoyed meeting up with them. Her greatest joy was being around the grandchildren's special events and activities, and loved sitting in the stands watching their games.

Phyllis is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, John and Marjorie Hancock; two beloved grandchildren, Matthew (Vivian) Hancock and Dr. Sarah (Eric) Turberg; and her pride and joy, her great-grandson Ethan Turberg. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Margaret "Maggie" Hancock, her grandson Sean Hancock, and two brothers, Daniel "Skip" MacDonald and Robert "Bobby" MacDonald.

Funeral arrangements will be private.
