Obituary

Robert John "Bob" Barlow, Sr., age 66, a lifelong Aston resident passed away on January 26, 2022. Bob met his wife Kathy in 1975, and together they raised a close knit family of 5 children. Bob worked at Sun Ship 1976 until it closed, where as a journeyman driver he made the papers for "an engineering first" when he drove a transporter relying on only maneuver signals to move a 100FT high, 25 ton crane over 715 yards without disassembling it. The article stated he was unable to tell what was happening on top of the transporter. No shipyard in America had ever "attempted to make such a move lifting the whole thing in 1 piece". He then worked at and eventually retired from General Chemical, where he was known for his pranks and his notes in the operator log books, which entertained with stories, about the workday including "the Christmas Ghost of General Chemical". He was not only a great storyteller at work, he also kept friends and family entertained with stories of his younger days, he was a true bad %$#, if he liked you, you knew it – same if he didn't. Growing up in a family of 5, and living in the very neighborhood he grew up in (I'm sure not all neighbors were thrilled) we as kids knew bringing a friend home was a trip down memory lane …"What's your last name? Who is your Mom? "…. almost always he knew them, they were his friends or the friends of his siblings. We would inevitably sit down and take our coat off, because this was going to be awhile. Dad loved music and his taste ranged from Motown, to Bob Seger to Tupac, he was also a surprisingly great dancer (just ask the ladies at the Saint James dances). In his younger days, Dad loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and going crabbing at the beach. His later years were largely spent being ordered around by people under 3 and 1/2 feet tall, and it was truly the happiest we ever saw him. He would sit around telling the grandkids how tough he used to be - they did not believe it at all, as they walked all over him..

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mary Barlow, his brother-in-law Wes Yanonis and his loving godson, Larry Barlow, who just recently passed away.
