Robert J. McCarthy "Max", age 75, passed away on August 20, 2026. Rob was born and raised in Chester, PA, and was a graduate of St. James High School. He later raised his family in Upland, PA, before moving to Greenbackville, VA, 12 years ago. Rob dedicated 46 years of his career to Scott Paper and Kimberly-Clark, where he worked as a Cogeneration Plant Operator until his retirement. Rob enjoyed many interests throughout his life. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and took trips across the country with his friends. He also enjoyed gardening and took pleasure in growing vegetables to share with family and friends. A talented musician, Rob enjoyed playing the piano, writing his own music, and singing. Most of all, he enjoyed being a father and cherished his role as a parent and grandparent.
Rob was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Horntown, VA. He was the son of the late Walter and Jessica (née Scarpato) McCarthy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Phyllis McCarthy; his children, Mike McCarthy (Laurie), Ryan McCarthy (Erin), and Erik McCarthy; his sister, Kim Albrand (Tim); and his grandchildren, Matthew and Cameron McCarthy, Kelly, James, and Devon McCarthy, and Grace McCarthy.
Visitation: Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 11:30a to 1:00p at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester ave. Astoon, PA 19014. Memorial Service: Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 1:00pm at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home. Burial: Private.
