Shirley A. Hicks, 82, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2020.

She was born on June 23, 1938 in Bradyville, Tennessee to Carmack and Zettie Knox.  Shirley attended Eastern Michigan University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English.  She went on to pursue a fulfilling career as an English professor while her husband, Harold, was a Maintenance Manager with United airlines.

Her interests included knitting, literature and proofreading friends writing.  Over the years, Shirley was proud of the work that she did for all of the communities she was involved in.  On one occasion, she was presented with an award for her efforts in creating care packages for Armed Forces overseas.

Shirley is survived by her children: Thomas Hicks, his wife Susan Driskell and their daughters: Macy and Marlowe; James Hicks, his wife Lisa and their sons: Kyle and Robert; Jennifer Hicks and her daughter: Christine; Jeanette Quigley, her husband Charles and their daughter: Kate; her brother: Johnnie Knox, his wife Janet and their sons: Johnnie, Jimmy, Jerry and their families.

Shirley will have a private burial on Tuesday, September 29, surrounded by immediate family.
