Obituary

Thomas Aidan Curran Jr., lovingly known as Tad, passed away on July 24, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on June 8, 1933, he was the son of Judge Thomas Aidan Curran and Grace McClatchey Curran. Tad married the love of his life, Theresa Anne Curran, whom he met at a jazz club in England while stationed there during the Korean War. Together they raised a beautiful family. Tad attended Malvern Preparatory School, where he excelled academically, on the football field and on the swim team. At 18, he joined the Army to serve his country during the Korean War. He was stationed in England. After his service he attended Pennsylvania Military Academy (Widener University) graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts. Born in Chester, most of Tad's adult life was spent in Oxford, Pennsylvania, where he raised his family. He worked in construction as an electrician at the Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia and later at Chester County Hospital. Tad had a deep love for the ocean, often reminiscing about his summers growing up and lifeguarding in Ocean City, New Jersey. A true Renaissance man, Tad was well-read, with an exceptional knowledge of poetry and vocabulary. He loved to garden and took great pride in his extensive vegetable garden, especially his prize tomatoes. Tad also had a passion for antiques and became an expert, particularly in fine china. Tad was a real gentleman with a big heart. He was always willing to help those in need. A devout Catholic, he ensured that each of his eight children were baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. Sunday mornings were dedicated to serving the Lord. Sunday afternoons were dedicated to the Philadelphia Eagles. He faithfully attended the annual St. Blaise / Curran Memorial Retreat in Malvern, Pennsylvania, which was founded by his father. Tad spent later years in Media, taking care of his mother, Grace, and then in Paoli, doing what brought him the most joy, spending time with his grandchildren. Tad will be remembered as a kind, and generous man who lived his life with integrity and love. His legacy will live on through his family and all those whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his sister, Molly Roach (Ed) of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and his brother, Gerald P. Curran of Matthews, Kentucky. He is survived by his children; Susan Marie Chapman of Naples, Florida; Thomas A. Curran III of Berlin, Germany; Genevieve Curran of Cape May Court House, New Jersey; John Patrick Curran (Susan) of Kirkwood, Pennsylvania; Eileen Curran of Columbia, Maryland; Mary Ellen Curran (Rick) of Keaneysville, West Virginia; Joseph Francis Curran of West Chester, Pennsylvania; and Grace Curran Brock of Elverson, Pennsylvania.
