Obituary

Thomas Jon Gessler, Sr- hard-working husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the age of 75 at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia, PA on Monday, July 4, 2022. Tom was born to Rose Marie and Thomas Leo Gessler, Jr. in Media, PA on November 19, 1946. He graduated from Media High School in 1964, and continued as a proud lifelong resident of Media until his passing. He met the love of his life, Fran, and married in 1976. Together they raised six children and joyfully welcomed 18 grandchildren. As their Catholic faith was the most important thing in their lives, for over 45 years they have been parishioners of St. Francis de Sales in Lenni. Through the years family has been the central focus of Tom's life. As a boy he bought a lawn mower and used it to help support his mother and sisters while his father was sick and ultimately passed. With that lawn mower and a dream he worked tirelessly to grow into an extraordinarily successful contractor. With the help of numerous dedicated employees who have become an extension of his family, Tom's dream became a reality. His work ethic, passed down to his children and grandchildren is his legacy. He was the living representation of the phrase, "hard work pays off". Being a Poppy came naturally to Tom. His grandkids loved hanging out with him in the summer at the Indian River Marina, deep sea fishing on his boat, and at the beach in South Bethany. In the winter he would take them fishing in Mexico, to the beautiful beaches of the Keys, to Disney World, skiing and on countless other adventures. Tom's love of race horses has been a passion his whole adult life. During racing season you could find him at the track rooting on both his own horses and his favorites as well! The highlight of this hobby was when his horse, Warrior's Charge, ran in the Preakness. Thomas is predeceased by his parents Rose Marie (nee Bassano) and Thomas Leo Gessler Jr. and his son Francis Matthew Gessler. He is survived by his devoted wife, Frances (nee Mazur); his daughters Candace "Pie" Phillips (Vincent), Lesley Knowles and Crista Gessler (Chev Lane); his sons Thomas Gessler, Jr. (Jill) and Joshua Gessler (Tiffany); Eighteen Grandchildren; his sisters Sharon Miles (George) and Philomena Holm (Nils); and many nieces and nephews. Tom lost his battle with cancer after a valiant fight. His family wishes to extend a special thanks to everyone who has prayed and supported him and them during this difficult time. In his memory, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fight Like Frank Foundation. Checks can be mailed to: 565 E. St. Andrews Drive, Media, PA 19063, or Venmo@fightlikefrank.
