Obituary

Thomas S. Godlewski, Sr., aged 76, passed away at home on January 12, 2024. Tom was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 16, 1947, the son of Anastasius Godlewski and Edith Dimberio. Following the untimely death of Tom's father shortly after Tom's birth, Tom and his mother moved to Wildwood, NJ where Tom spent his childhood surrounded by his mother's family. After returning to the Philadelphia area during his school years, he spent those teenage years driving fast cars, listening to rock and roll, chasing girls and living a typical life of a teenager in the 1960s. In 1965, after high school, Tom began his career working at Deluxe Check Printers in Malvern, PA and later in Moorestown, NJ where Tom rose to management and made many lifelong friends. One day in 1971, Tom's mother needed a ride home from a coworker named Bernice Krynack and when Tom and Bernice saw each other they exchanged phone numbers. Later Tom told Bernice that he would take a break from his other 3 girlfriends to take her on a date. For some odd reason, Bernice accepted...and by the end of that first date, both knew they had met the love of their lives. Tom and Bernice would marry in 1973 and later that year gave birth to their only child, a son, Tom Jr. For the next 20 years, Tom and his son were inseparable. He served as a cub scout leader for his son's pack. He coached his son's baseball team. In Tom Jr's teen years, the two could be seen at every golf course and inside every bowling alley in the tri-state area. Tom and Bernice also bowled together at Silverside Lanes in Wilmington for many years. After Tom Jr. went on to college, Tom left his job at Deluxe Check Printers and went on to work at several golf shops and golf course pro shops in the area. Tom loved golf and loved people and lived the happiest years of his career being surrounded by the sport and its players. Tom's last job in life was that of Pop-Pop. Pop-Pop spent many hours with the children of Tom Jr., his Sweet Pea (Cara), The Banana (Anna), Bells (Ella) and the Twin Terrors (Nick and Nate). Pop-Pop loved to watch movies (often not age appropriate!) with those kids, loved to tell all of his jokes and rhymes to those kids, and loved to terrorize them playing the roll of the deranged killer, Billy-Bob, who was sure to tickle them all to death. Tom's wife Bernice passed away in 2014, and those who loved him know, Tom never really got over her passing. He spent the last nine years of his life coping with his broken heart. He spent many hours golfing with his buddies and talking golf at work. In the last few years, when his health began to fail and he could no longer work or play golf, Tom spent time as he could with his family and his son. Finally, Tom left this world to reunite with Bernice and be at peace. He is survived by his sister Deborah Lynch of Florida, his son Tom (Jennifer), his grand children Cara, Anna, Ella, Nick, and Nate, his step grand children Noah, Josh, and Jackson, many nieces and nephews and a host of lifelong friends.
