Manchin
December 18, 1924 – January 25, 2018
Walter A. Manchin, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2018 at the home of his daughter in Aston. Walter was a lifetime resident of Chester. He graduated from Chester High School and retired as a clerk from the US Postal Service in Chester in 1983. Walter was an All Star athlete. He was inducted into the Chester High School and Delco Sports Hall of Fame for basketball. He is the longest living member in the Milmont Republican Club. He enjoyed winters in Florida and summers at the Jersey Shore. His fondest time was attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Many times traveling to multiple locations a day so not to miss one of the games. Walter served in the US Army during WWII receiving 5 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart for his courageous service. He was a longtime member of St. Katharine Drexel Church, Chester.
He was the husband of the late Kathleen (Clifton) Manchin (2013), father of the late Paula Manchin Laskos, grandfather of the late Jeff Boyda, and brother of the late William, Nicholas, and John Manchin, and Olga Onaro.
SURVIVORS: children: Kathleen Boyda (Jim), Walter A. Manchin, Jr. (the late Karen), John Manchin (Ann), Maureen Culbert (Mike), Christine Elliott (Tom), and Teri Brown (Scott); grandchildren: Jim Boyda, Kyle Manchin, Karly Manchin, Jonathan Manchin, Christopher Manchin, Megan Ward, Michelle Culbert, Molly Culbert, Courtney Wilson, Jessica Brown, Scott Brown, and Nicole Brown; great grandchildren: Josh Boyda, Katelin Boyda, Anthony Zalewski, Chase Heron, Travis Manchin, Kam Manchin, and Jaxon Manchin, Sister in law Regina Clifton and many nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: Monday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Ave., Aston, PA and Tuesday morning from 9:15 - 10:15 am at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 1920 Providence Ave., Chester. FUNERAL MASS: Tuesday at 10:30 am at St. Katharine Drexel Church. BURIAL: Mount Hope Cemetery, Aston. Condolences: www.nolanfidale.com.
