Obituary

William "Bill" J. Delany, 70, ofChadds Ford,PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. He was born inPhiladelphiato William and Mary (nee Fleming) Delany.

Bill grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and graduated fromWestCatholicHigh Schoolin 1962. He spent many years enjoying his membership and Presidency of the Southwest St. Patrick's Club. Bill was a longtime resident ofDelaware County,PAand lived for several years inVienna,VA.

Bill was very proud of his 35-year career at The Boeing Company. He began in an entry-level computer support position in 1964. He attended school at night while supporting a family of five and earned a B.S. in Business Administration fromWidenerUniversityin 1979. Bill worked his way into management at Boeing and held a number of executive level positions, primarily supporting Boeing Helicopter Division's production of the CH-47 Chinook Helicopter. Bill was also integrally involved in the development of the V-22 Osprey aircraft, serving from 1995 through 1997 as Deputy Program Manager and then Program Manager. Bill's career at Boeing culminated as President of Boeing Information Systems and Vice President of The Boeing Company. When his organization was sold to Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in 1999, Bill joined SAIC in Tyson's Corner Virginia as Senior Vice President, where he worked until his retirement in 2002. Bill was intensely loyal to, and extremely proud of, the many people with whom he worked.

Upon retirement, in Bill's words, "every day was Saturday." He spent those many Saturdays with his children and grandchildren, hanging out with his family and friends, pet-sitting his "grand-puppies" Atticus, Hammy, Rocky, Sandie, and Tucker, golfing, tending to his hilltop home (Rolling Rock Ridge), attending Eagles games, and tormenting the many of us who still had to work. Bill loved living in Chadds Ford, was President of the Chadds Ford Historical Society Board of Directors, and each year could be seen marshaling his grandchildren around the Chadds Ford Great Pumpkin Carve Festival.

Bill considered himself enormously wealthy with the love of his large and extremely close extended family. He was dedicated to making them all feel special, never hesitated to share his love, and took every opportunity to express his pride at their many accomplishments. He was truly a man who lived life, loved life, and had a profound impact on those he shared it with.

He is survived by his siblings Charles Delaney, Particia Albert and Elizabeth Kyle (Phillip Kyle); his children Linda Tonn (James Tonn), William J. Delany Jr., and Mary Bordic (Andrew Bordic); his six grandchildren Samantha, Madeline and Courtney Tonn, and Jack, AJ and Seamus Bordic; his former spouse Dorothy Goddard Delany; and a very large extended family.
