Ernest Steinke Obituary

Ernest DeLieu Steinke, 95, Garnet Valley, PA, passed away on July 30, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Faith Cecile Steinke (Bennett). Loving father of Karen Ruth Steinke, Susan Faith Steinke, and Sarah Lieu Megonigal (David Megonigal). Son of Ernest Reinhold Steinke and Ruth Adele Steinke (Tiffany). Also survived by grandsons Kyle David Megonigal and Luke Ernest Megonigal (Brandi Henry).

Ernest (aka Lou) was born in Winona, MN on the same day Charles Lindbergh took off on the first transatlantic flight. He served in the Navy during WWII. A graduate of Hamlin University, Lou was working on his Master's degree in Chemistry at the University of Detroit when he met Faith at Metropolitan United Methodist Church. Soon after, he began his career as a chemist at Ethel Corporation in Detroit, MI. He retired in 1989 from Sun Oil Company in Wilmington, DE.

Lifelong members of the United Methodist Church, Lou and Faith's spiritual and social lives centered around community service and church. The couple shared their golden years in Sun City West, where Lou enjoyed the arid climate, golfing, bridge, woodworking, carpentry, and astronomy.

Lou had a passion for travel. He camped with his family in 48 states, visiting countless national parks with his Canon camera slung across his body - a master of the candid shot. The quintessential dad, he was always fixing a car, breaking a wall, or replacing a roof (to the tune of his choice sayings). In his later years, he built an extensive woodshop in his garage, where he could often be found crafting intricate tables, rocking chairs and other treasures.

From Sunday dinners to family vacation in the Outer Banks, he cherished the company of his daughters and grandsons. In Lou's heaven, there is surely a classic western movie on the TV and a black Labrador retriever by his side.

Lou was stoic, dependable, loyal and driven. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
