Eugene F. Soltner

Eugene F. "Gene" Soltner, Sr., 97, died peacefully at his residence, Maris Grove, on Sunday, August 6, 2023, surrounded by family. Born in Eddystone, PA to the late Antone and Agnes Soltner, he was preceded in death by brothers Jack, William, and Thomas Soltner and his wife of 65 years, Marie (Walsh) Soltner. He is survived by five children: Jeanne Marie Blystone (William), Joanne Smith (Keith), Gene Soltner, Jr, Donna O'Shea (Brian), and Jacqueline Mathews. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who affectionately call him, Pop, and dedicated nephew, Eddy McLaughlin.

Formerly of Springfield, PA, Gene was a U.S. Marine and veteran of World War II, Pacific Theater. A graduate of Villanova University where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees, Gene was also a member of the football and track teams. He was a distinguished educator and coach for both the Eddystone and Ridley School Districts, and he will be remembered by many as an exemplary model of the greatest generation.
