Obituary

Everett S Snyder was born to Sherwood and Helen on August 7, 1922 at 6 Center Avenue in Trainer, Pa. He attended Trainer Grammar School and graduated in 1937. He attended and graduated from Eddystone High School in 1941. While in Eddystone high, he discovered his love for music. The band director wanted him to play the trombone but he ended up playing the clarinet instead. He credits his musical gifts to his mother, who played the piano and organ for their church. After graduation, he began working for Sun Oil Company in Marcus Hook, Pa. Duty called, so Everett joined the Army Air Corps in 1943. He served for 3 years, including 17 months overseas in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. While serving, he played in the Army Band. Music was his second love but he married his first love, Betty Mervine in 1946. They attended Chichester Wesleyan Church in Upper Chichester for many years. They were married for 67 years until Betty's death in 2013. Upon Everett's retirement, he and Betty moved to Lewes, Delaware to enjoy the beach and boating life for 20 years, then moved inland to Betty's hometown of Greenwood, De. During these years, He returned to his music career and played with many great local musicians and even had his own band, "Ev Snyder's Little Big Band, where he performed at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. He also used his musical talent in the churches he attended. His latest residency was with Ivy Creek Gracious Retirement Living in Glen Mills, Pa. Where he once again entertained his friends with his music by playing the saxophone and keyboard, when he was well into his 90's. He attended Stonybank Church in Glen Mills for a couple of years where he was able to, once again, glorify the Lord with his musical gifts. Everett passed away quietly in his sleep on April 28, 2024. He is survived by his children, Bruce Snyder (Gloria) from Aston, Pa, John Snyder (Joyce), also from Aston, Debra Wright (Gil) Bethany Beach, De.
