Upper Chichester - Ferdinando Carruolo, a devoted husband, loving father, and accomplished structural civil engineer, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023. He was 75 years old.
Born in Italy, Ferdinando brought his strong work ethics and unwavering determination when he immigrated to the United States in 1968, becoming a proud American citizen. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Widener University and earned his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering Degree from Drexel University. While in school he earned a spot on the Academic Dean's List in 1972 and 1975, and he was a member of the ASCE Student Chapter at Widener College. He dedicated his career to the military industry, specifically serving as a valued member of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and Boeing Helicopters. His work focused mainly on design management and structural review of roads, bridges, cranes, and procurments.
Ferdinando possessed an insatiable thirst for knowledge and was known as an avid reader and writer. Of his several publications, his book Behavior of Cavity Walls Under Out-of-Plane Loading was his most notable. His passion for learning extended beyond his academic pursuits, as he was deeply involved in his community and family. He enjoyed watching soccer, the Tour de France, and was a long time member of the Sons of Italy. He was a former member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and a devoted member of St. Mary Magdalen Church, Media, with his wife Suzanne.
Fred was predeceased by his parents Pietro and Assunta Forte Carruolo, and his first wife Jane H. Carruolo.
Survivors: His present wife Suzanne Wallace-Carruolo, his adoring son Peter Carruolo (Kari), and his beautiful granddaughter Avery, his sister Dorina McHale (Richard) and his niece Susan McHale. Fred's legacy lives on through the indelible impression he made on the lives of those around him.
