Frederick R. "Fred" Frieze, Sr. age 88 of Glen Mills, PA passed away on April 17,2023. Fred was raised and educated in Chester, PA, where he graduated from Chester High School in 1952. While a Chester Clipper Fred played his baseball under the legendary Hal Brewster. He pitched a two-hit shutout to win the City Championship for Chester High vs. St. James Catholic High School for Boys . After High School ,Fred attended PMC in Chester where he pursued a degree in Mechanical engineering.
Fred lived in Twin Oaks, PA for more than 30 years and then resided in Rehoboth Beach, DE for several years.
He played for more than two decades in the Delco League competing for St. Hedwig's, Tinicum, VFW and Eureka Red Socks. He was named the league's MVP in 1959, when he won 14 games for St. Hedwig's including a two-hit shutout over Fizzano Brothers to clinch the pennant. He also led the league in strikeouts that year with 126. Fred was inducted into the Delaware County Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golfing. A sports enthusiast, Fred was an avid Phillies and Sixers fan.
He was the son of the late Emelyn & Theresa (Schaler) Frieze, brother of the late Donald Frieze, and great grandfather of the late Ronan Frieze.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 66 years: Corene (Jones) Frieze, his children: Frederick R. Frieze, Jr.(Aleita), Laura F. Swezey (Duncan), and Mark Frieze, 5 grandchildren: Stephen Frieze, Alyssa Wesley (Dale), Duncan Swezey (Kelly), Taylor Hornbeck (Landon), and Casey Swezey and 6 great grandchildren: Tinley, Anniston,Amelie, Kaia, Duke and Ford.
The family requests NO FLOWERS and donations may be made to the SPCA in Fred's memory.
