Joseph John Brooks, age 74, of Garnet Valley, passed away suddenly on July 27, 2022. Joe was raised in the Gray's Ferry section of Philadelphia and a graduate of St. John Neumann High School. Joe was a Lieutenant with the South Detectives in the Philadelphia Police Department Special Investigation Unit. He retired after 31 years. From there, he worked for 12 years in the Chester County DA's office and was a proud member of FOP Lodge #11. He belonged to the Elks Lodge #1896 of Greater Wildwood, NJ and VFW Post #6349 in Ridley Twp., PA. Joe was a former parishioner of St. Gabriel's Church in Philadelphia, PA and a current parishioner of St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Boothwyn, PA. He was an avid sports fan, a WWII enthusiast, a TV remote control expert, and an inspector of many bar stools.
Joe was the son of the late Joseph Henry Brooks and Matilda (Dougherty) Brooks, and brother of the late Emma (Dougherty) Gilbert.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Mary (Kopaczewski) Brooks, his children: Meghan Brooks Rayner (John) and Joseph Brooks (Helene), and his grandchildren: Erin, Joseph, Sarah, and Ryan. Joe is also survived by many cousins who he considered and loved as siblings!
Visitation: Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 5:00-7:00pm and Monday, August 1, 2022 from 10:00-10:45am at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home 5980 Chichester Ave., Aston, PA 19014. Funeral Liturgy: Monday, August 1,2022 at 11:00am at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home. Burial: SS. Peter Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
