Joseph Prestipino passed away peacefully on the afternoon of April 7, 2024. He was surrounded by those he loved. Joe is the son of Joseph Prestipino and Rosa Schiliro Prestipino who were born in Malvagna, Sicily and came to the United States in 1913. He is also predeceased by brothers Henry and Francis, and sister Yolanda Kennedy and his wife of 56 years, Arlene.
Joseph attended Penn State University graduating in 1955 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He spent his entire career at DuPont beginning as an entry level engineer at Dupont Chambers Works and retiring from that same plant 38 years later as Fluorochemicals International Technology Network Manager. After his retirement Joe was a consultant for the World Bank (Washington, DC) and the United Nations Development Program (New York, NY). His career moved him all over the U.S. including California, Louisville, KY, Crown Point, IN, and Wilmington, DE. He also traveled overseas with several work projects in Japan, China, Brazil, and India.
Joe's bachelor Lifestyle changed quickly when he met the love of his life, Arlene, on a blind date in 1959. They were married four years later and welcome their sons, Timothy and Dale over the following two years. His boys were the pride of his life.
In his free time oe was an expert craftsman, building furniture and remodeling their homes. He loved outdoor work too and could often be found during his retirement in his sons' yards (since his own yard was perfect). He coached his boys in Little League Baseball for years and later in life became a bocce champion in their retirement community.
Joseph's favorite place was at their beach home in Marmora, NJ. He served on the membership board for years, was lead cook at the pancake breakfasts, and spent hours with friends playing cards.
Joe was a very active and involved grandfather to his six grandchildren, often babysitting. He also enjoyed going to the beach with them where he'd play in the sand for hours. It gave his family great happiness to see the joy hs two great grandchildren brought to him this past year.
Joe is survived by his sons Timothy Prestipino and Dale Prestipino (Tracey), grandchildren Madison Hay (Daniel), Nicholas (Gia), Matthew, Michael, Kelly, and Evan Prestipinio, great grandchildren Kennedy Prestipino and Henry Hay, and his loving sister Barbara Innes.
As a lifelong Catholic we pray Joe has found comfort and peace in his Lord and has been reunited with his beloved Arlene.
