Lorraine Weikel Obituary

Lorraine 'Rain' Gail Weikel, 63, of Glen Mills, PA passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024. Born in Chester and raised in Brookhaven, PA, she was the daughter of the late Carl W. Nelson, Sr., and Winifred P. (Clark) Nelson. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Samuel Weikel, with whom she shared 30 years of marriage.

Lorraine, a 1978 graduate of Sun Valley High School, obtained her nursing license from Methodist Hospital (1982). She went on to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2015) and a Master of Science in Nursing (2020) from Immaculata University.

For most of her career, she served at the bedside as an ICU nurse at Methodist Hospital (Thomas Jefferson University Hospital) in South Philadelphia, PA. She later molded and inspired a generation of young nurses in her role as nurse manager. Whether as a patient, colleague, or family member, nearly every member of the South Philadelphia community felt her unmistakable presence in their lives. She always found a way to bring laughter and joy to others, even in the darkest times.

She was a parishioner of St. Thomas The Apostle Church located in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.

Lorraine was an excellent cook and cherished time spent with her family. She will also be deeply missed by her beloved dog Fitzy, who was her best friend and inseparable companion over the years.

Survivors: In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter: Samantha Elena Weikel of San Francisco, California, two siblings: Lynn Marie Galbraith (Bill) of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Carl W. Nelson, Jr. of Milton, Delaware. Additionally, she is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
